Zombieland 2 begins filming this week & adds Rosario Dawson

As if you needed another reason to be excited for Ruben Fleischer's ZOMBIELAND 2: DOUBLE TAP starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, today we have word via Deadline that filming is all set to begin on the much-anticipated sequel this week! Sure we confirmed for you guys that the movie would start shooting in January way back in September, but it looks like they're pushing it to the last minute.

But it's all good and all forgive as we also have the killer news that it looks like Rosario Dawson has joined the cast as well. There's currently no word on who Dawson will be playing but we do know that she will be joining franchise newcomers such as the previously announced Zoey Deutch and Avan Jogia in the post-apocalyptic zombie comedy is written by original ZOMBIELAND and DEADPOOL scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

The sequel which also just got a new poster (see below) centers on

The comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland. The zombie slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. Most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

Rosario Dawson is one of my favorite actress out there, hands down. After all, she has starred in such neo-classics as Robert Rodriguez's SIN CITY and SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, Kevin Smith's CLERKS II, and Quentin Tarantino's addition to GRINDHOUSE, DEATH PROOF to name a few. She even had a (deleted) scene in Rob Zombie's THE DEVIL'S REJECTS (here's PROOF). I say that's one good addition, ZOMBIELAND 2!

Original ZOMBIELAND director Ruben Fleischer returns to helm and is re-teaming with original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (DEADPOOL 2). Gavin Polone produces and Reese and Wernick will also executive produce. Lauren Abrahams will oversee the project for the studio. The sequel is set to go into production this week for release on October 11, 2019 –- the 10th anniversary of the first film. Snag a copy of the original on Blu-ray HERE.
