Zoe Saldana to produce psychological thriller Pretty Baby

Two years after starring in the TV mini-series remake of ROSEMARY'S BABY (I have a feeling a lot of people have forgotten that even happened), Zoe Saldana has come on board to produce a different genre project with "Baby" in the title, an adaptation of Mary Kubica's novel PRETTY BABY.

Saldana will produce the film through her company Cinestar Pictures, but there is no studio attached yet, the rights to the novel are still available.

Kubica's story centers on

Heidi Wood, who has always been a charitable woman: she works for a nonprofit, takes in stray cats. Still, her husband and daughter are horrified when Heidi returns home one day with a young woman named Willow and her four-month-old baby in tow. Disheveled and apparently homeless, this girl could be a criminal — or worse. But despite her family’s objections, Heidi invites Willow and the baby to take refuge in their home.

Heidi spends the next few days helping Willow get back on her feet, but as clues into Willow’s past begin to surface, Heidi is forced to decide how far she’s willing to go to help a stranger. What starts as an act of kindness quickly spirals into a story far more twisted than anyone could have anticipated.

The psychological thriller has been compared to SINGLE WHITE FEMALE and THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. You may assume that Saldana would be considering taking one of the lead roles for herself, but she might not have time. Currently in production on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, Saldana is expected to move from that film straight into the epic two year process of shooting James Cameron's three AVATAR sequels back-to-back-to-back.
