If you're scratching your head and wondering if you somehow missed Zoe Kravitz in FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM, you're likely not alone. Although her character, Leta Lestrange, was discussed several times throughout the film, we only ever briefly saw Kravitz as Leta in a photo kept by Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). The two characters were once quite close during their time as students at Hogwarts, but it wasn't exactly made clear in the film what caused the rift between them. The upcoming sequels to FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM will likely explore more of Newt and Leta's relationship and Zoe Kravitz spoke with Collider recently to say how excited she is to finally get to appear on screen as more than just a photograph.
I’m very excited. The one day I was on set for that, and also for my audition process, being able to work with Eddie [Redmayne] and David [Yates] was incredible. The script was very under wraps, so even signing onto it, I hadn’t read the script. I just went off of who was involved, and J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter films, so I knew it was going to be incredible, especially with how involved J.K. is. And then, I got to see the film, after I was already signed on, and it exceeded my expectations. That was a really interesting experience, to sit back and watch a movie that you loved, and then get to walk out and say, “I get to be in that!” It’s a very cool thing.
Kravitz hasn't yet seen the script for the upcoming sequel, but she believes that production will kick off in "June or July." She does know that the complex relationship between her character and Newt Scamander will begin to be explored, likely across several of the planned four sequels.
I think there’s a few ahead. The relationship between Leta and Newt Scamander is a complex relationship, so I think there will be a lot of time for that to grow and develop, which will be fun.
The FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM sequel is set for a November 16, 2018 release.
