Hot off his controversial role in ZERO DARK THIRTY, actor Jason Clarke has now signed on to star in director Matt Reeves’ DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, joining the previous film’s “star” Andy Serkis, who is returning as the Apes leader, Ceasar. Very little is known about the plot details, but there are some tidbits to give you a picture into the direction they’re going.
The story is set 15 years after the events of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, following two different aspects; a group of scientists (with Clarke likely to be one of them) trying to survive in post-ape-ocalyptic San Francisco and the continued struggle of Ceasar as the most intelligent of the apes.
Personally, i didn’t fall head over heels in love with RISE, but it was an enjoyable enough film. I think Matt Reeves has potential to do something cool and Clarke is inspired casting. He’s got great intensity, as demonstrated in ZERO DARK THIRTY, and having Serkis back in the “globe suit” is always a bonus to your film.
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is set for release on May 23, 2014.
