So it’s official, Zack Snyder’s JUSTICE LEAGUE is going to be a mini-series! Snyder himself revealed this at DC FanDome, saying that HBO Max will be presenting the film in four one-hour installments. That makes it a four-hour film and if that’s the way you want to watch it, don’t fret. Snyder will also be assembling it into a one-shot deal. And international fans, don’t fret. Distribution deals are being made so it’s won’t be a U.S-only thing. Whew! Still no date, although everyone says it's coming in 2021.
Up next was the trailer, which you can see above but here are some notes:
- Set to Leonard Cohen’s "Hallelujah"- a song Snyder previously used in his version of WATCHMEN.
- Looks very serious compared to the JUSTICE LEAGUE we got, or at least a much more contemplative film, heavier on drama than action – although there’s both.
- The aspect ratio is full-IMAX scope, which will mean it’s window boxed on most TV's.
- Finally, Iris West (Kiersey Clemons) makes a long-awaited appearance, with footage showing Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen saving her.
- Much more of a role for Ray Fisher’s Cyborg and his father, played by Joe Morton.
- A meeting between Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Martha Kent (Diane Lane)
- More between Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard)
- A fresh look at Darkseid and Steppenwolf
- Superman wears his black suit throughout
Snyder was also on hand to answer fan questions, but in a cool move, his JUSTICE LEAGUE cast asked the questions and first up was Ben Affleck himself (looking like he’s back in Batman shape – no surprise with him signing on for a part in THE FLASH), who said he was “excited for fans to see Zack’s ultimate version of the Justice League.” The question asked who Snyder’s favorite superhero is, and while Affleck guessed it was Batman, Snyder says it’s actually Dr. Manhattan from WATCHMAN. Ray Fisher asked who was the character he was most excited for fans to see in JUSTICE LEAGUE, and appropriately his answer was Cyborg.
As to whether there would be more of The Flash (asked by Ezra Miller), Snyder says yes, you’ll see a lot more, as well as his emotional arc. Gal Gadot, after noting Snyder was the one who cast her as Wonder Woman, thanked fans for making the “Snyder Cut” a reality. Patty Jenkins also showed up, asking Snyder for a hint of something we haven’t seen yet. Snyder’s answers: “you’re gonna see something of Flash in this film you haven’t seen before,” noting it had something to do with time and space.
