Director Zack Snyder has spent most of his time over the last few years in the realm of superheroes, but now he’s going back to the realm of the dead with his new, original movie, ARMY OF THE DEAD. The big-budget Netflix zombie movie finds Snyder working as the director, co-writer, co-producer and cinematographer, and the man of many skills took to social media to show off a behind-the-scenes look at his return to flesh-eating creatures.

The photo itself doesn't reveal spoilers or glimpses at the main cast but does tease some vicious and always welcome zombie aftermath, as Snyder sets up his shot using a special RED, 8K digital camera, writing in the caption, "Want to say a special thank you to Jarred Land at Red Digital Cinema for building our amazing cameras. They're killing it. #reddigitalcinema #8k #AOTD."

The movie marks his first zombie movie since his excellent 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD (written by James Gunn), which put Snyder on the map and led to gigs directing 300, WATCHMEN, MAN OF STEEL and more. It marks his first feature directorial project since tackling 2017's JUSTICE LEAGUE, which he had to leave during post-production to tend to a family tragedy.
Originally set up as a sequel to 2004's DEAD, Netflix bought the rights to the project and put it in the hands of Snyder. Written by him, Joby Harold (KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD and Shay Hatten (JOHN WICK 3), the movie centers on a group of robbers as they plan to pull a heist on a casino in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. The movie stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Theo Rossi, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera and more.
There's no release date yet for ARMY OF THE DEAD, but it could be gearing up for a summer release in 2020.
