Zack Snyder wanted to bring Riddler, Penguin & more into the DCEU

Despite the support of fans, it’s highly unlikely that Zack Snyder will ever return to the DCEU, and although the director was able to realize his true vision for Justice League with the Snyder Cut, it’s clear that he wasn’t done telling his story. While speaking with BroBible, Zack Snyder was asked what Batman villains he would have introduced to the DCEU had he been given the chance, and they include all the ones we’ll be seeing in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Catwoman, Penguin, and Riddler.

Very much so,” Snyder said when asked if Penguin was someone he would have brought into the DCEU. “Obviously Catwoman is someone we talked about and we had a Riddler concept that we talked about. Remember, The Riddler was kind of like the one who figured out the Anti-Life Equation on Earth in the spec scripts.” Snyder continued, saying that he’d “love to see Penguin — I think will be cool. I think that’s a great character and I’d love to see a version of Penguin that has an inherent camp to it. It’d be awesome to see how you could deconstruct it and make him into something crazy.” As fun as it might have been to have seen what Zack Snyder would do with Riddler and other Batman villains, it likely won’t come to pass, but Snyder was recently asked by Games Radar how he would feel if another director continued the Justice League story.

Oh gosh, I wouldn’t have thought of that Listen, I loved making all those DC movies, and I love superheroes, and I love the genre. I’m very excited to see Matt [Reeves]’s Batman movie [The Batman], so that’s exciting. Something like that [though], I’m not sure.

The Batman will feature Robert Pattinson will be starring as Bruce Wayne/The Batman, with Jeffrey Wright playing James Gordon, Paul Dano playing the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz playing Selina Kyle, Andy Serkis playing Alfred, John Turturro playing Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot. The Batman will debut in theaters on March 4, 2022.
