Actor Garret Dillahunt has dealt with a lot of zombies in recent years. Not only is he currently working on his third season of Fear the Walking Dead, but he also has a role in Zack Snyder's upcoming Netflix film ARMY OF THE DEAD. But, as genre fans know, zombies aren't the same in every movie or TV show they appear in, and while speaking with ComicBook.com Dillahunt talked a little bit about how the zombies he encounters in ARMY OF THE DEAD differ from those he crosses paths with on Fear the Walking Dead.
When asked how the world of ARMY OF THE DEAD compares to the world on Fear the Walking Dead, Dillahunt replied,
Yeah. It's real different. I'm excited to see it too. To have different ideas about zombies, which is refreshing, I think, in a lot of ways. And I know I have to keep this so vague. I'm sorry. I didn't know one of the things coming out now. Sometime next year. But they strayed away from a lot of normal zombie canon, that for some reason, everyone adheres to. And you're like, 'Maybe they don't have to be that way. What if they were this way?' 'Oh, that's a nice wrinkle.' Zombies are scary. I'll tell you that. Zombies are really fast and scary."
It's no surprise to hear that Snyder has fast zombies in ARMY OF THE DEAD, since that's what he used in his DAWN OF THE DEAD remake (watch it HERE). We'll have to wait and see what else makes the ARMY zombies different from the usual – and unfortunately, Netflix hasn't scheduled a release date for the movie yet.
Written by Snyder, Joby Harold, and Shay Hatten, ARMY OF THE DEAD is an adventure film that takes place after
a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, where a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
Dillahunt is joined in the cast by Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Huma Qureshi, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighöfer, Rich Cetrone, and Samantha Win.
Zack Snyder produced ARMY OF THE DEAD with Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller. The film is the start of a franchise that will also include a prequel that centers on Schweighöfer's character and an anime series that will serve as an "origin story" for Bautista's character.
