The fight against skull-collecting hunters from another world is going to be a family affair in THE PREDATOR, director Shane Black's "inventive sequel" to PREDATOR. Boyd Holbrook will star in the movie, which is currently filming in Vancouver, as an ex-Marine who goes to battle with the titular creature, but this isn't just going to be another film about the Predator stalking a group of trained badasses (Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, and Alfie Allen are also on board to play ex-Marines). Somehow Holbrook's autistic son, who is played by Jacob Tremblay, also becomes "a key player in the fight due to his preternatural ability to learn languages." Now it has been revealed that the kid's mom will also get involved.
Yvonne Strahovski has signed on to play "the mother to Tremblay, a troubled boy who is accidentally drawn into the conflict with the fierce alien creatures by his father — her ex-husband — played by Holbrook."
The involvement of Strahovski and Tremblay's characters would seem to lend some credence to the persistant rumor that at least part of this film is set in the suburbs. This would mark a return to the suburbs for the Predator, as the hunter previously stalked small town America in AVP: REQUIEM.
Scripted by Black and his THE MONSTER SQUAD collaborator Fred Dekker, THE PREDATOR also stars Olivia Munn (as a scientist), Sterling K. Brown (as a government agent), and Thomas Jane (role unknown). The film is scheduled to be released on February 9, 2018.
