The studio Gunpowder & Sky has formed their own horror brand called Alter, which "curates, develops and distributes award-winning short films, series, and feature films". Alter is serving as a presenting sponosor at this year's Cinepocalypse Film Festival in Chicago, which is begins today, June 13th, and will continue through June 20th.

During Cinepocalypse, Alter will be hosting the world premiere of its new film DEADCON. The premiere takes place this Saturday, June 15th, and in anticipation of the film's debut its trailer has been released online. The trailer can been below.

Directed by Caryn Waecther, DEADCON stars YouTubers Lauren Elizabeth and Claudia Sulewski in a story that "tackles isolation in the age of social media". Written by Scotty Landes, the film has the following synopsis:

Staying in adjoining suites at a hotel hosting ViewCon—a collection of YouTube and Instagram stars and their legion of fans — Ashley and Megan soon discover that there are things scarier than thousands of teenagers armed with phones, asking for selfies. Their rooms are haunted by the vengeful ghosts of some of the original pioneers of social media, including a terrifying young boy named Bobby.

I'm not familiar with Elizabeth and Sulewski's YouTube channels, so I'm missing out on that aspect of the film being a draw. All I have to go on are the synopsis and the trailer, and this all seems pretty goofy to me (the ghosts of social media pioneers?), yet appears to be played seriously. I'm not sure about this one, so it will be interesting to hear how it goes over at Cinepocalypse.
