Sometimes I feel so alone.
When the first trailer for the upcoming remake of ROBOCOP hit it seemed that the internet collectively lost their minds over it, spitting all kinds of hate for it. And while I'm quick to admit that it could never polish the shiny metallic scrotum of the Paul Verhoeven-helmed original film, I didn't hate what I saw from that trailer. Instead, I kind of dug it and am all for giving the flick a chance. Who knows? It might be quite good. It couldn't be worse than ROBOCOP 3 could it?
Not surprisingly, ROBOCOP will be getting an IMAX release, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who states that IMAX is set to digitally supersize Jose Padilha's remake for release in its theaters worldwide from Feb. 7, 2014. The latest addition to the giant screen exhibitor's 2014 release slate comes as part of a deal for the updated version of the 1987 sci-fi classic with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
In ROBOCOP, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilises their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
Directed by Jose Padilha, ROBOCOP stars Joel Kinnaman as the title character, Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates ROBOCOP, and Samuel L. Jackson as media mogul Pat Novak.
