It’s about damn time! Jon Hamm is finally getting his own series on Apple TV+, and all is right with the world. Well, not really, but it’s just an expression, right? Hamm’s new Apple show is titled Your Friends and Neighbors. The straight-to-series project stars Hamm, who will also executive produce. Your Friends and Neighbors is the Tag and The Morning Show star’s first ongoing drama since the salad days of AMC‘s Mad Men.
The concept for Your Friends and Neighbors stems from an original idea by Jonathan Tropper, the director of Banshee and Warrior and writer of See, The Adam Project, Kodachrome, and more. Thanks to his overall deal with Apple, Trooper will showrun and executive produce. In addition to his starring role, Hamm executive produces the show with Connie Tavel (Confess Fletch).
The story focuses on Coop (Hamm), “a recently divorced hedge fund manager who, after being fired, resorts to stealing from the wealthy residents in his tony upstate New York suburb in order to keep his family’s lifestyle afloat. The petty crimes begin to reinvigorate him until he breaks into the wrong house at the wrong time.”
Before Hamm landed his starring role in Your Friends and Neighbors, the suave film and television star playfully read Apple the riot act in a hilarious Apple TV+ promo. Hamm lists celebrities who have received their own Apple projects in the promo. As he makes his way down the increasingly long roll call, he practically “begs” Apple to give him a shot at making his own show. By the end of the commercial, Hamm is leaving messages for Apple over the phone, the automated messaging system screwing with him as he makes his pleas.
