Your chances of survival are slim in new clip from Alien: Covenant

As we near the release of ALIEN: COVENANT I've got my fingers crossed that the film will represent an improvement over PROMETHEUS, which I did enjoy but sadly can't deny that it wasn't the sci-fi epic that I had hoped. Ridley Scott seems keen on sticking with the ALIEN franchise this time around and has plans for several more ALIEN movies before finally connecting with the 1979 original. Will Ridley Scott get his chance? I suppose that depends on how well ALIEN: COVENANT is received and, more importantly, how much sweet box-office cash it manages to bring in. It's certainly got my $10.

The latest ALIEN: COVENANT clip features a newborn creature emerging from the back of one unlucky Covenant crew-member. Just apply some ointment, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Those of you who were hoping that ALIEN: COVENANT would pave the way for Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN sequel were likely disappointed when Ridley Scott recently confirmed that Blomkamp's project wasn't nearly as far along as we had hoped.

I don't think it will ever see the light of day. There was never a script. Just an idea that evolved from a dozen or so pages. I had to participate as producer, but it didn't go farther because Fox decided it didn't want to do it. As far I was concerned, I had already done Prometheus and I was working on Covenant.

As Sigourney Weaver had previously raved about the script on multiple occasions, I find it a little hard to believe that the project hadn't progressed further than Scott claims. It seems that the sequel is dead in the water, but perhaps it will rear its head once the franchise needs to be resurrected again.

The official synopsis for ALIEN: COVENANT:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

ALIEN: COVENANT is set for a May 19, 2017 release.
