Goran Stolevski is making his directorial debut with You Won’t Be Alone, a horror film that the gifted filmmaker also penned the screenplay for. The movie tackles themes of loneliness, curiosity, and self-discovery with the horrors of ancient folklore and body swapping. It’s an ambitious effort and Stolevski proves to be up to the challenge of making his story work.
I was lucky enough to briefly speak with Gotan Stolevski about his film and even though I only got two questions in, Stolevski passionately discussed how he came up with his story and how he presented this horror tale from the female perspective, something he is mostly accustomed to but not in the world of horror. It’s clear that characters came first and then he began to explore some of the folklore that also plays a prevalent role throughout the film.
You Won’t Alone stars Noomi Rapace, Anamaria Marinca, Alice Englert, Carloto Cotta, Felix Maritaud, and Sara Klimoska. The movie made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema Dramatic Competition section on January 22, 2022, and hits theatres today!
