The film FRANKIE GO BOOM, from director Jordan Roberts (AROUND THE BEND) has a very unique logline, which certainly demands attention. Of course, not to be outdone by simple words, Roberts has also let loose this poster, featuring the ever-distinct Ron Perlman in drag…
You will probably be seeing that image all day, so for that, I apologize. To counter the eye poison, I have this second poster, featuring the much more “fair” looking Charlie Hunnam.
Oh, and here’s that logline I was talking about:
A flick by Bruce about his little brother Frank who’s a crybaby fuck who shouldn’t do lameass imberrising shit if he dozn’t want people 2 see it on the internet.
That particular logline was e-mailed in to SXSW by Roberts late at night as he was feeling “a bit punchy.”
The next day, Roberts panicked, having realized what he’d done and sent in a new logline. The problem? It never made it to the right people, so Robert’s original logline stuck with all the press and marketing for SXSW. However, it seems to have worked in Robert’s favor as the logline has made FRANKIE GO BOOM a “must see” at this year’s festival, which runs from March 7-19. The pic also stars Charlie Hunnam, Chris O’Dowd, Lizzy Caplan, Chris Noth, and Whitney Cummings.
And here’s the “corrected” logline:
Frank (Hunnam) has been tortured, embarrassed, and humiliated — usually on film — by his brother Bruce (O’Dowd) his entire life. Now that Bruce has finally kicked drugs and turned his life around, things should be different. But when Frank’s one-night stand with a distressed young woman (Caplan) goes not quite as planned, Bruce’s camera is ready, as always, to capture it…and share it with the world.
This sounds like it could be a great, whacked-out, black comedy to me and the cast is pretty damn stellar. Can’t wait to see a trailer.
FRANKIE GO BOOM premieres at SXSW on March 10th. Keep an eye out for a wider release.
