You may forgive Peter Berg for Battleship after seeing the trailer for Lone Survivor starring Mark Wahlberg

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Peter Berg has wanted to direct the adaptation of the book LONE SURVIVOR for so long that he agreed to direct BATTLESHIP for Universal if they agreed to finance it. Well, that is what Deadline claims. While technically sounds, BATTLESHIP was an utter disaster in every other way. But, this new trailer for LONE SURVIVOR proves that Berg still has what it takes to make a good military film.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Eric Bana, Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch, and Taylor Kitsch, LONE SURVIVOR is based on the true story of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell:

LONE SURVIVOR tells the story of four Navy SEALs on an ill-fated covert mission to neutralize a high-level Taliban operative who are ambushed by enemy forces in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan

LONE SURVIVOR looks like a smaller scale war film, one more focused on the characters rather than huge explosive set pieces. Sure there are still some action scenes in the trailer but this film looks more like four against an army and a tale of survival. Part of what makes movies like BLACK HAWK DOWN so good are the realistic portrayal of situations gone bad.

LONE SURVIVOR opens in limited release on December 27, 2013 and wide on January 10, 2014.
