As was widely rumored, producers of GI JOE 2: RETALIATION had their eye on Bruce Willis to star as General Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe, in the upcoming sequel. Willis’ name was bandied about back when The Rock was confirmed as starring and the actor has been considering the offer ever since only just now agreeing to star.
Willis joins a cast that probably should’ve starred in the first GI JOE movie that includes the aforementioned Rock, the returning Channing Tatum, RZA, Ray Stevenson and Adrianne Palicki.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that filming on JOE 2 begins later this month but The Rock has been tweeting from the set, including this photo of him shooting a big-ass gun.
With Willis coming in this late in the game, I’m curious exactly how substantial the Joe Colton role is. He was retired in the comics and he’ll obviously be yanked out of retirement but will he be in action? Chillin’ in the back and just directing our Joes like Dennis Quaid in the last film?
JOE 2, which has director Jon M. Chu behind the camera, hits theaters on June 29th, 2012.
