Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher to star in Stephen King’s The Boogeyman

Sophie Thatcher has had one hell of a year. After breaking out thanks to her roles in Yellowjackets and The Book of Boba Fett, Deadline has reported that Sophie Thatcher is set to star in The Boogeyman for 20th Century Studios.

The Boogeyman is based on the short story by Stephen King and was first published as part of The Night Shift in 1978. It revolves around a man telling a psychiatrist how each of his children had been killed by a sadistic presence. The Boogeyman movie will shift things up somewhat as Sophie Thatcher will play a teenage girl who is “still reeling from the tragic death of their mother, find herself along with her brother plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention before it’s too late.” In addition to Sophie Thatcher, The Boogeyman will also star Chris Messina (Sharp Objects). Rob Savage (Host) will direct The Boogeyman from a script by Mark Heyman, with the original drafts penned by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods and Akela Cooper. Production is expected to kick off next month and the film will debut on Hulu.

As I mentioned above, Sophie Thatcher is among the ensemble cast of Yellowjackets on Showtime, a thriller series that revolves around a group of high-school students in 1996 whose plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness and are left to fend for themselves for nineteen months. The series also follows the present-day lives of those who survived. It was a major success for Showtime and was renewed for a second season last month. Thatcher also played Brash in The Book of Boba Fett, the leader of a group of cyborgs who wind up working for Boba Fett. As for Chris Messina, he was seen starring alongside Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage in I Care A Lot and will next be seen in Sean Penn’s Watergate series Gaslit that will debut on Starz later this year.
