Yellowjackets co-creator confirms bonus episode will drop before season 3

When it became clear that the second season of Yellowjackets would only include nine episodes, one less than the previous season, fans became convinced that a bonus episode was secretly being held back. Turns out, those fans were right all along.

Yellowjackets fans believed that the bonus episode would drop today. That didn’t happen, but series co-creator Ashley Lyle took to Twitter to confirm that the episode does exist. She didn’t offer an update on when fans might see the episode, only that it will premiere sometime before the release of the third season. “Go to bed! Get some rest!” Lyle wrote on Twitter. “There will be a bonus episode between seasons, but I love you guys and I don’t want y’all to lose sleep thinking it’s tonight.

Ashley Lyle added that the Yellowjackets bonus episode will debut “closer to [season 3]. I’m not being coy, there’s a strike and things are complicated.” It’s best to not get too excited for that bonus episode as production on the third season of Yellowjackets is still quite a ways off. The writers room for the new season had only just opened when it was shut down due to the WGA strike. Work on the third season won’t resume until the writers receive the fair treatment they deserve.

As for what this mysterious episode could include, your guess is as good as mine. There are plenty of threads that could be picked up to bridge the gap between seasons, or perhaps even a flashback explaining what happened to the hunter whose cabin the Yellowjackets have been living in.

Yellowjackets centers on “a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series will chronicle their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.” You can check out a review of the second season of Yellowjackets from our own Alex Maidy right here.
