You would think that after all these years Vin Diesel would want to take a step back and play some lower-key roles, like the father of a kid with terminal cancer, or a guy who gets lost at sea and has minimal dialogue. But no, Diesel can’t help but live life at 200 mph and lead franchises like FAST AND FURIOUS and XXX. In fact, he loves the latter series so much he went ahead and bought the rights, meaning he can make as many damn films as he pleases, and you can bet your ass he will get started soon.

The word is (via THR) that Diesel and his One Race Films have partnered up with The H Collective to buy the rights to the action franchise from Revolution Studios and are moving ahead with plans for the fourth entry in the series. Diesel will reprise his role as Xander Cage with D.J. Caruso returning to direct after helming last year’s XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE. Production is slated to begin this December
The movie did not fare well at the U.S. box office, making only a little over $40 million dollars. However, the movie did gang busters overseas, making $164 million in China, making up a large chunk of the $346 million global total. Much like with FURIOUS, Diesel left the XXX series after the first movie, leaving the sequel (XXX: STATE OF THE UNION) to star Ice Cube, but returned for the third outing. Get it? That’s why the title has “return” in it!

RETURN OF XANDER CAGE is one of those movies where whatever it is people love about the movie is exactly what other people hate. Where some see ridiculous, fun, tongue-in-cheek action, other see a moronic, dim-witted attempt at action spectacle. Either way, it's the kind of movie drinking games were made for. Even if folks here didn't really bite the overseas crowd ate it up, so I guess that's a reason to suit up for another adventure that utilizes skateboarding, motocross, and Monster energy drink. But I have one request: Can someone please get Diesel a shirt with sleeves to wear this time around. Just to switch things up, you know?
XXX 4 will start filming this December.
