The name David Hayter may not be known for directing, but he certainly has written his fair share of movies including the first X-MEN and Zack Snyder‘s WATCHMEN. Now, Hayter is making his debut as a director with the action-horror movie WOLVES starring Lucas Till and Jason Momoa. We have the first two trailers for the movie, one red band and the other green.
While werewolves have forever been a popular subject, they have played second fiddle to vampires and zombies in recent years, which means that WOLVES should surprise no one when you see it definitely is taking the teen tone and format of the TWILIGHT films.
Popular high school student Cayden Richards wakes from a horrific nightmare, only to realize that he’s living it… He is changing into something vicious, unpredictable and wild. Forced to hit the road after the brutal murder of his parents, Cayden tries to hunt down the truth of what he is. In the remote, mountain town of Lupine Ridge, he discovers others like him — Including the beautiful Angelina, a young woman caught between two ancient clans of “wolves”. And when he finally discovers the shocking truth behind his ancestry, Cayden realizes there is only one way to save the woman he loves… a grisly fight to the death against forces more savage than he could have ever imagined.
This trailer looks all over the place to me. I see elements picked from TWILIGHT as well as the outlaw culture from SONS OF ANARCHY along with a little FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. The bottom line is this looks like a low budget affair and not something you would expect to compete with a major studio release. Still, Momoa is an entertaining actor and the wolf make-up looks pretty good.
WOLVES is set to debut on demand on October 16th and theatrically on November 14th.
