Well this is…something. According to Deadline, Kevin Bacon is in talks to take on a villainous role in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. It’s not specified which character he might be playing, and I’m curious as to who you guys think it could be.
This news comes after FIRST CLASS has been adding cast members left and right over the past few days, and already in the film we’ve got James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Aaron Johnson (Cyclops), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), and Lucas Till (Havoc).
Bacon would seem to be a strange choice here, but I’m not exactly sure why. I know the man can act, but it just seems really weird to be talking about Kevin Bacon in an X-Men movie doesn’t it? But with the massive mutant cast this thing is racking up, it’ll probably be a lot easier to play his “degrees” game after this.
I am starting to worry that this thing is already getting too mutant heavy already. I understand the CLASS part of FIRST CLASS, but really, we’re pulling people like Emma Frost, Banshee and Havoc for this movie? I would try to focus more on a core croup (say, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Angel and Iceman, the original first class), and leave more minor characters out entirely. That would better allow for something called “character development” I believe, but hey, what do I know?
