The upcoming X-MEN: APOCALYPSE may take place a decade after the events of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but William Stryker's (Josh Helman) attitude towards mutants hasn't exactly changed for the better; in fact, Stryker has been using that time in order to develop his own solution to dealing with the mutant problem. Empire (via Comic Book Movie) laid out the details of a scene featuring Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Quicksilver (Evan Peters) and Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne) encountering Stryker:
The quartet have been kidnapped by army twonk William Stryker following a cataclysmic event at the X-Mansion, and wake up in a holding cell. On a balcony above them, Stryker taunts his prisoners, demanding to know the whereabouts of Magneto.
Given the rebooted timeline, we're not sure when Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) involvement with Stryker's Weapon X program will come to pass, if it does at all this time, but fans were hoping that they might get a peek at that before Hugh Jackman takes a bow and exits the franchise with the third and final Wolverine film. When asked whether Wolverine might pop up in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, director Bryan Singer said that "as a central character, he didn't fit into this particular story." That's not exactly a no, and I'd actually be a little shocked if Wolverine didn't turn up in the film in at least some form.
A synopsis for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is set for a May 27, 2016 release.
