We don't normally report celebrity gossip here on Arrow in the Head, but this couple transcends all petty matters: Mulder and Scully. In the upcoming reboot of The X-Files, the unforgettable terrestrial couple will have split. Says producer and showrunner Chris Carter:
We do it in an interesting way. We play with that relationship [in the event series]. We put some of the tension back in that was relieved by them being together. It added to the storytelling opportunities. It’s something that I came up with; I had been thinking about it. There was always talk of [breaking them up] if we did another movie.
There's no word yet on how the unhappy pair will clash during the season, but those who worry about their welfare should never say never. You know how stressful situations can bring people together, and this new short season looks like it's going to be jam-packed with those.
The series premiere, "My Struggle", centers on Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigating Annet Mahendru's character, who is believed to be a "possible alien abductee," according to Joel McHale's character, a conservative talk show host who gives Mulder and Scully the tip to investigate her.
With original cast members Mitch Pileggi, Sheila Larken, Annabeth Gish, The Lone Gunmen, and William B. Davis also set to return, joining newcomers Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose, The X-Files will beam onto Fox with a six-episode season on January 24, 2016.
