Fresh out of D23 Expo comes the news that Wyatt Russell (OVERLORD) and Emily VanCamp (Revenge) have joined the cast of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier for Disney+. Emily VanCamp will of course be reprising her role of S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, but Wyatt Russell will be playing John Walker aka U.S. Agent, a super-powered individual who, in the comics, faced off against Captain America as Super-Patriot and later held the mantle of Captain America himself.
Emily VanCamp played the role of Agent 13/Sharon Carter in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER as well as CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, so it's nice to see her back in action after missing out the past few jam-packed entries in the MCU. As for U.S. Agent, he possesses many of the same abilities as Captain America, such as enhanced strength, agility, and reflexes. Creator Mark Gruenwald has said that he developed the character as a way to counter Captain America's optimistic patriotism, saying that he wanted someone "who embodied patriotism in a way that Captain America didn't—a patriotic villain." The Falcon & The Winter Soldier will naturally see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan returning to reprise their roles, but they'll also be joined by Daniel Brühl, who played the villainous Baron Helmut Zemo in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.
There are a variety of other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects in the works for Disney+, including Loki starring Tom Hiddleston, WandaVision starring Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen, Hawkeye with Jeremy Renner, the recently announced Ms. Marvel, as well as What If…, an animated series which will examine key moments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and give them a twist.
