Awwwww yeah! The good word has come in today that SAMURAI JACK will return to Adult Swim for its fifth season beginning on March 5, 2017! The news comes via one of Adult Swim’s classic promotional bumps (I think it’s kind of amazing that Adult Swim is still running the black and white promos after all these years), after a fan asked what the heck was going on with the show’s triumphant return.

It’s been awhile since we’ve carved up some demons with Adult Swim's angular ronin warrior, so for those of you that don’t know, SAMURAI JACK tells the stylish and action-packed stories of Jack, a time-traveling samurai prince whose mission it is to destroy the nefarious and shape-shifting demon, Aku. The show originally aired on Adult Swim between the years of 2001-2004. Idiotically, the show was cancelled after its fourth season, leaving many fans (and at least one Joblo senior staff member) in the lurch, wondering when the time would come for Jack to kick some demon ass, once more.
Created by Genndy Tartakovsky (HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, DEXTER’S LABORATORY, THE POWERPUFF GIRLS), season 5 of SAMURAI JACK will be comprised of 10 episodes and is set to be the last in the series – as confirmed by Tartakovsky himself during last year’s San Diego Comic Con.
While I might not have seen all four seasons of the SAMURAI JACK television series, I’ve certainly watched the movie a great deal. Perhaps this awesome news will prompt me to go back and get caught up on the trials and tribulations of Jack, as he does battle against Aku in what I can only assume will be an epic battle to the death.
Season 5 of SAMURAI JACK will premiere on March 11th at 11:30 pm EST on Adult Swim.
