Hey, remember when I sent you that request to join Farmville on Facebook? Remember when I sent it 65 times? Remember when I posted that my cow was lost? Oh yeah, you remember, and you’re probably very thankful that Facebook finally found a way to put the ka-block on that shit, keeping the mindless, fruitless activities of Farmland out of your already convoluted feed of mirror shot selfies and mealtime pics with descriptions. However, director Brett Ratner didn’t get that memo and is now taking the battle to put Farmland into your consciousness to the small screen with an animated series based on the game.
No, I’m not f*cking with you and it’s not April 1st. Here’s Ratner’s statement
“FarmVille is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience.”
FarmVille was launched in 2009 by game maker Zynga and has become one of the most popular games on Facebook and MSN Games. A FarmVille 2 sequel was released last Fall.
The thing is, there are so many projects languishing out there, deserving of a wider audience; original ideas, concepts, creations from all over the world. You’ll never convince me that the well has run so dry that this is the only idea left to capitalize on. Yeah, I get that a lot of people have used the game (*shaking head*), but really, it’s nothing more than a mild distraction without a narrative. It brings in money because people are bored and probably not occupied with a job or school or other endeavor that benefits society.
But, I digress. If this is your thing, then get ready for a weekly dose of it in animated form. A network is not yet attached to the show (and maybe never will be?), but Ratner is charging full steam ahead with Six Eleven Media to make it happen. Meanwhile, Ratner is currently prepping HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS, starring Dwayne Johnson, for an August 8, 2014 release.
