WTF Happened To This Celebrity? – The JoBlo series that examines the careers of stars and filmmakers who may have fallen out of the spotlight and tells where they are now!
Kirsten Dunst started her career at a young age. She first made a big impression alongside A-list talent such as Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in Interview with the Vampire (when she was only eleven years old) before appearing in hits like Jumanji and becoming a teen idol with roles in movies like Bring it On and the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy. From there, it was straight to the A-list for Dunst. Rather than opt for purely commercial projects, Dunst mixed studio films like Wimbleton with more idiosyncratic parts in films like Sofia Coppola’s under-rated Marie Antoinette, the thriller All Good Things, and more.
While she had a few notable bumps in the road along the way, most significantly Cameron Crowe’s reviled Elizabethtown, Dunst has always managed to bounce back and give stunning performances. Still, the fact remains that outside of her acclaimed turn in Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia, she never really gets her due. Too often, when people talk about the best actresses in Hollywood, Dunst gets overlooked, even if her roles on Fargo (opposite current partner Jesse Plemons) and the short-lived show On Becoming a God in Central Florida proves she’s indeed one of the best out there. And while her recent output may have slowed as she focuses on a new family, a look through her recent career demonstrates just how UNDERRATED she is.
