WTF Happened to Gods of Egypt?

When it was announced that Alex Proyas, the director of films like The Crow and Dark City, was readying an action-oriented epic revolving around Egyptian gods, moviegoers were hyped. Unfortunately, instead of worshipping the movie at the alter, Gods of Egypt became one of the biggest cinematic travesties of 2016. Starring actors like Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Chadwick Boseman, and Elodie Yung, Gods of Egypt arrived as a whitewashed, visual spectacle with little substance.

Gods of Egypt focuses on the mortal hero Bek (Thwaites), who teams with the god Horus (Coster-Waldau) in an alliance against Set (Butler), the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. Plagued by promotional problems due to the main characters being predominantly of northwestern European descent, Gods of Egypt‘s hopes of becoming a franchise were dashed before the film hit theaters. Panned by critics, Gods of Egypt has a 15% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes (with a 37% Audience Score). This upset begs the question: What went wrong? Join us as we discover what happened to Alex Proyas’ Gods of Egypt.

WTF Happened to Gods of Egypt is written by Daniel Woburn, narrated by Matthew Plate, and edited by Cesar Gabriel.
