I'm certain I have seen no more than five episodes of The X-Files, if I have even seen that many. In the build-up to the six episode 2016 revival of the 1993 – 2002 series, I had some intention of catching up on the first nine seasons before that shortened tenth season reached Fox airwaves, but I just didn't get around to it. I remain lost in the darkness when it comes to this series, but I know that fans of the show will be familiar with the names of some of the writers who are currently populating the X-Files writing room, crafting stories for the upcoming eleventh season.
Among the writers working with X-Files creator Chris Carter on the new episodes are James Wong, Glen Morgan, and Darin Morgan, each of whom wrote and directed episodes of season 10 and have a history with the show going back to its earliest days.
I haven't seen their X-Files episodes, but I am a fan of the work that Glen Morgan did on TRICK OR TREAT, FINAL DESTINATION 1 and 3, and the WILLARD remake, among other things. James Wong directed FINAL DESTINATION 1 and 3 from scripts he wrote with Morgan, so I'm a fan of his work as well.
Writing alongside these X-Files veterans are a few men who have gotten promotions: Carter's personal assistant Brad Follmer, season 9 writers assistant Gabe Rotter, and season 10 writers assistant Benjamin Van Allen.
That's seven writers splitting up the work of putting together ten episodes. Here's hoping they're coming up with ideas that fans will love.
In case you're even less familiar with The X-Files than I am, here's the gist of it:
In one of the longest-running science fiction series in network TV history, FBI special agents investigate unexplained, mind-bending cases known as "X-Files." Though the government is convinced that the outlandish reports are false, conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and realist Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), for most of the series, stop at nothing to prove that "the truth is out there."
Season 11 will premiere on Fox sometime in 2018. My second chance to catch up on the series before it returns begins now…
