Writers Guild Award nominations include Arrival, La La Land & Deadpool

We're in the thick of awards-season right now, with nominations coming in left and right from a variety of organizations, including the Writers Guild of America. For the most part there haven't been too many surprises as we've seen movies like LA LA LAND, ARRIVAL and HELL OR HIGH WATER pop up fairly frequently, and the recently announced nominations for the 69 annual Writers Guild Awards are no different, with one sizeable foul-mouthed exception. DEADPOOL, the little film that could, has snagged a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Check out the full list of nominees below!

This isn't the first time that a comic-book flick has been included by the WGA, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY was nominated back in 2014 (THE IMITATION GAME wound up winning), but I'm still surprised to see DEADPOOL pop up. The WGA will announce the winners on February 19, 2017 during simultaneous ceremonies at the Edison Ballroom in New York City and the Beverly Hills Hilton in Beverly Hills. Does DEADPOOL stand a chance? Likely not, but stranger things have certainly happened. Speaking of DEADPOOL, the Tim Miller flick has also landed nominations for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Performance in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) for Ryan Reynolds by the Golden Globes. The ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon and take place on January 8th.
