The Devil is big box office. At least, that’s what Summit Entertainment is counting on as they prep for another possession-themed film with their upcoming EXORCISM DIARIES, and it looks like they’ve found their writer.
According to Deadline, Black List scribe Barbara Marshall has been tapped to write the screenplay for EXORCISM DIARIES, which is said to be inspired by the book ‘The Real Story Behind The Exorcist” by Mark Opsasnick. The film is being produced by Roy Lee, Sonny Mallhi and Doug Davison. The project was originally acquired by Summit as a pitch by Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe. John Sacchi will oversee the project for the studio.
Marshall’s breakthrough came when she made the 2012 Black List script PESTE, which is being put together at IM Global. The scribe began her career as part of the NBC Diversity Program before staffing on “Terra Nova” for Fox.
You may remember that at one time SUPERBAD funnyman Jay Baruchel was set to rewrite the screenplay for EXORCISM DIARIES, first being announed as being attached to the project in May of 2011. At that time the film was being described as…
a tale that centers on a reporter searching for the truth behind the most famous exorcism in history, but soon discovers that the real-life story is not quite finished. As a result, she finds herself in harm’s way of the same supernatural entity that she is chasing.
We’ll keep you updated on EXORCISM DIARIES as we hear it.
