Last we heard, filmmaking team Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (THE LEGO MOVIE, 21 JUMP STREET) were developing a story for THE FLASH that is, "a different take on superhero stuff." That's something we hear time and time again as new superheroes are introduced into the world of cinema, but when it comes to these two guys, I think you can take their word for it. To further cement that fact home, Warner Bros. and DC have just chosen their director for the job: Seth Grahame-Smith.
If the name sounds familiar, he's the writer behind such stories as "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." The man has been super busy in the screenwriting world, penning the upcoming BEETLEJUICE 2 and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, but this will mark his first directing gig for a feature-film.
Considering the talent involved, it's clear that DC is probably going a more comedic route with The Flash, compared to the likes of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. It's a smart move on their part, as one of the reasons Marvel's films are so successful is because they bring different genres and overall vibes into the fold. I know there's a lot of folks who watch the current Flash TV show, so here's hoping they can do something different with the film that will be equally entertaining to fans.
THE FLASH, starring Ezra Miller, is scheduled to hit theaters on March 23, 2018.
