Since the passing of Paul Walker, those involved in the making of FAST & FURIOUS 7 have been diligently trying to figure out how to handle the next installment in the franchise.
The task is certainly not an easy one no matter how you go about it. Even though production on the film has been postponed indefinitely, it seems that writer Chris Morgan is working on possibly “retiring” Walker’s character Brian O’Conner. The hope is that they can use footage already shot to achieve this outcome. Sources say that Walker was half way through filming for his character, and the week of his death that there was still a lot left to go. If they find a way to retire the character using the footage, then the cast and few could be back at work as soon as late January. That said they are likely scrapping the release date of July 11th.
By no means is Universal going to rush any ideas though with the studio is under a tower of financial issues. Regardless, they are still remaining sensitive to the tragedy as well as to the fans and family of the actor.
The source added that there is support to complete the version of the movie that was already filmed even though it contained “several car crashes” but the question still remains: “What will drive everything is, is there an honorable and sensible way to do this?” but unfortunately “there’s not really a road map” for the situation.
