Apparently hoping to milk every cent it can out of the film, Paramount has decided to put WORLD WAR Z into select IMAX 3D theaters for a one-week engagement starting Friday, August 2nd. The film has already played in select IMAX theatres internationally.
WORLD WAR Z has done well for the studio, grossing $192 million domestically. One would assume that the studio wants that number to rise over $200 million, partially for bragging rights (after the film's well-publicized production issues) and also because its other big sumer release,PACIFIC RIM, has disappointed in North America, banking only $84 million so far.
Whatever the motivation, those tumbling zombies are rolling across the screen once again starting on Friday.
World War Z revolves around an ex-United Nations investigator Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. The film stars Pitt, Mireille Enos and James Badge Dale.
