Last week we heard that the third film in the CLOVERFIELD anthology series, a movie originally titled GOD PARTICLE and now possibly called CLOVERFIELD STATION, might be skipping a theatrical release and going straight to Netflix. While we wait to find out whether or not that Netflix deal is going to happen, it appears that the fourth CLOVERFIELD movie is already in post-production.
Rumors were already swirling that director Julius Avery's World War II horror film OVERLORD might be part of the CLOVERFIELD franchise back when the project was in the casting process. Now sources have confirmed to Slash Film that OVERLORD is indeed CLOVERFIELD 4 – or whatever its actual CLOVERFIELD title will be.
Based on a story that was crafted by producer JJ Abrams and screenwriter Billy Ray ten years ago, (CL)OVERLORD centers on
two paratroopers who are caught behind enemy lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. After reaching their target, the two paratroopers come to realize that besides fighting off Nazi soldiers, they also must combat against supernatural forces that are a result of a secret Nazi experiment.
Ray's script received a slight polish from THE REVENANT co-writer Mark L. Smith, who is currently writing a STAR TREK script for Abrams and Quentin Tarantino.
OVERLORD had been scheduled to be released on October 26, 2018, but it's not clear if it's still aiming for that date. The film stars Wyatt Russell, Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Dominic Applewhite, Pilou Asbaek, Iain de Caestecker, John Magaro, Mathilde Ollivier, and Bokeem Woodbine.
