Woody Harrelson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kate, Netflix

Several months ago it was announced that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (GEMINI MAN) would be taking the lead in KATE, an assassin thriller from Netflix, and now it seems that she'll be joined by Woody Harrelson (VENOM).

KATE will revolve around a female assassin who has been given less than 24 hours to live after being poisoned. While setting off on a manhunt through the streets of Tokyo to take vengeance on her murderer before she dies, she forms an unexpected bond with the daughter of one of her past victims. While Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be playing the titular assassin, there's no word on which role Woody Harrelson will fill, but I could easily imagine him as the villain of the piece. KATE will be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR) and has been scripted by Umair Aleem (EXTRACTION).

Woody Harrelson has a number of films just over the horizon, including the long-awaited ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP which has reunited him with original stars Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. The Ruben Fleischer film is slated for an October 18, 2019 release. The actor will also play the role of Admiral Chester Nimitz in Roland Emmerich's MIDWAY on November 8, 2019, and is also set to reprise the role of Cletus Kasady in the upcoming VENOM sequel which is expected to hit theaters on October 2, 2020. VENOM director Ruben Fleischer has said that he's looking forward to witnessing Woody Harrelson explore his darker side once again. "When you think about a guy named Cletus, and off the comic book pages what he might be like, this insane serial killer, if you think about Woody in Natural Born Killers and the menace that he brought to that character, I think it’s really exciting to think about him going to that darker place again," Flesicher said. "Because recently he’s been playing more kind of heroic or comedic parts so to see him going to that kind of darker space, I think, is going to be incredible."
