The year was 2002, when Dick Cheney remarked to the world that “Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction.” As the 46th Vice President of the United States shared these doom-stricken words, panic settled into the bones of politicians, journalists, and a frightened public, who were left with little choice but to fear the worst for their safety and country. At that same time, a team of reporters at Knight Ridder were instructed to "see if we can nail them down." Thus begins the story of SHOCK AND AWE.
Directed by Rob Reiner (LBJ, A FEW GOOD MEN), SHOCK AND AWE is poised to tell the true events of Knight Ridder journalists who were the only ones who “got it right” in the lead-up to the 2003 Iraq War when they questioned the true nature of the Bush White House’s justification for the conflict.
Reiner also stars in the film among an ensemble cast of all-stars including: Woody Harrelson, James Marsden, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Biel, Tommy Lee Jones, Rob Reiner, Luke Tennie, and Richard Schiff. The feature is written by Joey Hartstone, and is based on the life stories of Joseph Galloway, Jonathan Landay, Warren Strobel, and John Walcott.
SHOCK AND AWE will first make the rounds as a DirectTV exclusive beginning on June 14 before arriving in theaters on July 11 courtesy of Vertical Entertainment.
