Woody Harrelson in talks to join Tom Hardy in Ruben Fleischer’s Venom

It looks like the upcoming comic book adaptation VENOM is going to be a ZOMBIELAND reunion, as ZOMBIELAND star Woody Harrelson is in talks to join the cast of the film, which is being directed by ZOMBIELAND's Ruben Fleischer.

Already signed and confirmed to be in the film are Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze, with Tom Hardy as the titular character, a man who gains superhuman power when coated with a sentient alien symbiote.

Venom was originally introduced in the pages of Marvel comic books as a villain for Spider-Man to go up against, but went on to become an antihero. Although the VENOM film is being made at Sony, it won't have any connection to the studio's SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, on which they collaborated with Marvel Studios, or the Marvel Cinematic Universe that HOMECOMING's Spider-Man is part of.

A couple days ago, we shared the news that Fleischer had said the film is based on two Venom storylines from the comics – Lethal Protector, in which 

Venom ends up teaming up with Spider-Man to tackle five new offspring of the Venom Symbiote: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony. 

And Planet of the Symbiotes, in which 

Earth is invaded by an army of symbiotes, with Venom teaming up with Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider to stop them.

So basically, Tom Hardy's Venom is going to be fighting a bunch of other symbiotes.

The role Harrelson is up for is said to be "a henchman of sorts". Hopefully a symbiote-coated henchman who will cause a lot of trouble for Venom.

VENOM is scheduled to reach theatres on October 5, 2018. 2018 also happens to mark the 30th anniversary of the character's comic book debut.
