Woody Harrelson doesn’t care if he causes controversy

Woody Harrelson had to be told by others that his Saturday Night Live monologue stirred up a bit of controversy.

Woody Harrelson controversy

When you think of Woody Harrelson, you might think of one of the chillest guys in the business. After all, the dude takes residence in Maui. And, for the most part, Woody Harrelson has been relatively free of controversy throughout his career, with the most talked-about moment coming from his February appearance on Saturday Night Live, taking jabs at those who got jabs in their arms with the Covid-19 vaccine.

But, surprisingly to pretty much no one, Woody Harrelson doesn’t care about the controversy that it stirred up. In fact, he had to be told that he even raised a stink at all since he doesn’t pay any attention to the internet. Speaking with Esquire, he said, “People told me it was, shall we say, trending. No, I don’t look at that shit. I feel like, ‘I said it on SNL.’ I don’t need to go further with it…other than to say—well, no, I won’t. Never mind. That’s enough.…But it don’t change my life one bit. Not one bit, if the mainstream media wants to have a go at you, right? My life is still wonderful.” Justin Theroux, who was also being interviewed as the pair promoted HBO’s miniseries White House Plumbers, confirmed that there’s little that will trip up Harrelson. “I’ve had some real goes at Woody, and I can tell you, he doesn’t give a shit.”

Other than his anti-vax and anti-mask stances, Woody Harrelson has mostly dodged controversy in his nearly 40-year career, although he was a bit of a target to some for his support of the legalization of marijuana and hemp. He also wound up in a police chase in 2002 and faced a lawsuit in 2008 where he allegedly assaulted a member of the paparazzi. But really, this is pretty good behavior considering his father was a hitman responsible for the first assassination of a federal judge in that century. Yay…? However, he might have another secret family member running around Hollywood

On the same night as his Saturday Night Live hosting gig, he became a member of the ever-expanding Five Timers Club, a group of people that have hosted the show on at least five occasions. Harrelson first hosted in 1989.

What did you think of the controversy that surrounded Woody Harrelson’s SNL monologue? What is favorite Harrelson movie and performance?
