Woody Allen’s Magic in the Moonlight poster is a Photoshop disaster

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Woody Allen movies typically do not need much in the form of advertising to make them popular as the renowned filmmaker has built in fans through his half century career in the movies. His recent successes with movies like BLUE JASMINE and MIDNIGHT IN PARIS have been interspersed with less successful movies like TO ROME WITH LOVE and YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER. His latest film, MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT, looks to be one of those lesser films.

Despite an all-star cast that includes Emma Stone and Colin Firth and a fairly cute trailer, MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT is bound to be a weak entry for Allen. Like the odd numbered STAR TREK movies, Woody Allen‘s acclaimed films are often followed up by fluffy pictures that aren’t taken seriously. To boot, the newly released poster for MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT shows how little effort is being put into marketing the film.

It has been a long time since we have seen a truly abysmal Photoshop disaster on a movie poster, but this may take the cake. The simply awful off-white background, the barely visible credits and title, and the blurry background alone would have been bad. But, Emma Stone and Colin Firth look like composites from multiple images. Emma’s arms look wrong for her body and you can tell Firth wasn’t wearing that cap in the original photo. And, apparently, someone felt his eyes needed to be shifted to the side and his mouth slightly agape. For what reason, I have no idea.

This is simply a terrible poster that will likely be mocked on multiple movie sites today, and with good reason. Hopefully the movie isn’t as bad as this when it opens on July 25th.
