It's been announced that Woody Allen's latest movie, CAFE SOCIETY, has been selected to open the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival. This will be the third time that the event has kicked off with an Allen-directed flick (with 2002's HOLLYWOOD ENDING and 2011's MIDNIGHT IN PARIS being the other two), and his fourteenth film to screen out of competition at the long-running festival.
Not much is known about Allen's 46th (!!!) feature directorial effort, except that it will tell "the story of a young man who arrives in Hollywood during the 1930s hoping to work in the film industry, falls in love, and finds himself swept up in the vibrant café society that defined the spirit of the age." Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart headline the cast of CAFE SOCIETY, which also features the talents of Steve Carell, Parker Posey and Corey Stoll. Allen's new movie will be released by Amazon Studios later this year, and below you'll find the first image from the film.
The 2016 Cannes Film Festival will run from May 11-22 with MAD MAX: FURY ROAD director George Miller presiding over the competition jury, and the official selection titles are scheduled to be announced on April 11.
