Wonder Woman writer developing Marvel TV series about female superheroes

ABC is looking to stay in the Marvel superhero game as Deadline has reported that Allan Heinberg, who penned WONDER WOMAN, has been tasked with developing a new Marvel TV series. Details about the project are naturally being kept under wraps, but it's been said that the drama will focus on some of Marvel's lesser-known female superheroes. Any guesses?

Allan Heinberg will script the pilot of the unnamed series as well as serve as executive producer alongside Marvel Television Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb. ABC has launched several Marvel TV shows over the past few years, including Inhumans, Agent Carter, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the latter of which will return for a sixth season next summer. Getting a new Marvel series off the ground has reportedly been a priority for the network, so I'd imagine that we'll be hearing more about the potential series soon. In addition to WONDER WOMAN, Allan Heinberg is also known for his work on Sex in the City, The O.C., Grey's Anatomy, and The Catch.

No matter what Allan Heinberg's Marvel series winds up being, it may be overshadowed by the recent announcement that Disney's upcoming streaming service will include several limited-series centered around popular character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nothing has been confirmed just yet, but it's been said that several of the shows could focus on Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). The budget for the series is expected to be quite substantial, but they won't be quite as long as regular TV shows as each series is expected to include somewhere between six to eight episodes.
