Wonder Woman voted most anticipated summer movie, according to Fandango

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Now, I've made my excitement and anticipation for WONDER WOMAN known many times before. And while I still have misgivings about certain things (I'm iffy about setting it in WWI, I don't like the idea that she quits at some point), just seeing Diana kick ass and take names in the various cool trailers has eased a lot of those problems for now. And the great preview reviews (no matter how dubious early reactions can be) haven't hurt. I'm hopeful. Hell, I've already got my Wonder Woman costume ready for the premiere! Just gotta finish the shield!

However, what's more heartening, is that according to the largest survey in the company's history, Fandango has discovered I'm not alone. According to them:

More than 10,000 film fans voted online from April 27-May 19, representing the largest response to a moviegoer survey in the company’s 17-year history. Fans were asked to pick the one movie they were most looking forward to seeing on the big screen between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

“Wonder Woman” (opening June 2) is currently outpacing “Captain America: The First Avenger” at the same point in the Fandango sales cycle. Fandango is also seeing brisk sales for its branded “Wonder Woman” gift cards, which can be found atfandango.com/giftcards

Not only that, but according to a separate survey, they found out that "92% are excited to see a standalone female superhero movie. 87% wish Hollywood would make more movies featuring female superheroes.", which is awesome. After everything that's going on in the world, and even behind-the-scenes at the DCEU itself, stuff like this is encouraging to hear.

Here's what Patty Jenkins – the director of WONDER WOMAN – had to say:

Listen, who knows what'll happen? I am not sure of anything…People weren't clear whether anybody would want to see a Wonder Woman film and I was always like, 'What? Like, it's Wonder Woman, man. This is such a great character!' But I could feel that [positivity] coming from the world at moments, so to have that mirrored back, to have positivity mirrored back at us at this moment in the way certain people are reacting to the movie and then that from the audience is like… I just can't put into words enough how grateful I am and we are for having believed in this movie and having the world come back at us that way. That's unf***ingbelievable!

Meanwhile, WONDER WOMAN will kiss and take names in theaters June 2nd, 2017.
