Wonder Woman producer says “nothing has been written” for sequel

WONDER WOMAN officially comes out today, capping off what has been a stellar week for the superhero epic. Critics and audiences have been dumping praise on the movie, championing star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins.  In this world we know one is never enough, so naturally people are wondering when the heroine will be flying solo again, and to that producer Charles Roven…will get back to us.

The producer recently sat down with Cinema Blend to talk about the flick, and in the process said that any development on WONDER WOMAN 2 is not underway, with all the focus being put on this film and her next appearance in JUSTICE LEAGUE:

Nothing has been written. We really want to focus on this movie, and I think the result of this movie is going to really define what the future of Wonder Woman is in the movies, other than the fact that you know that she's in Justice League. And we're really happy about that!

So far WONDER WOMAN as amassed a phenomenal 93% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best reviewed comic book movies of all time – if not the best. It’s also tracking for a $100 million+ debut this weekend. Given all that, why would the folks at Warner Bros. even want to focus on anything else, other than the many popping champagne bottles in their offices?

Even though there’s nothing written down, Jenkins has said she would like to keep Diana (Gadot) in a period setting for the sequel, potentially in the 30s or 40s era. But the character will kick some ass alongside Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cybrog (Ray Fisher) first, which is just fine with us.

The fact no one has really started working on the sequel is refreshing to say the least. In an age of franchises no one stops and smells the roses anymore without thinking off all the other roses they have left to sniff. WONDER WOMAN is already a bona fide smash, so everyone should just stop and take a big whiff of this magnificent flower, and enjoy every second.
