Jessica Chastain is known for playing strong, bold, determined women in her films, and her character in the upcoming WOMAN WALKS AHEAD is no exception. In the film she plays Catherine Weldon, a painter who travels to the American frontier to paint the legendary Sitting Bull. This was at a time when tensions the Lakota tribe and the U.S. Army are at an all-time high. The new trailer for the movie is here, teasing a luxuriously shot biopic that doesn’t stray away from the darker elements of the story.
The movie comes from director Susanna White (OUR KIND OF TRAITOR) and writer Steven Knight (LOCKE, ALLIED) and co-stars recently-minted Oscar winner Sam Rockwell, Ciaran Hinds and Michael Greyeyes. The movie debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last year where it was picked up by A24 and received okay reviews.
I will watch Chastain in anything and I will watch Rockwell in anything, so I guess that makes WOMAN WALKS AHEAD required viewing for me. The movie looks beautifully shot and there’s some real breadth to White’s camera work in several spots. This looks like a solid biopic with some great performances, so what’s not to like?
WOMAN WALKS AHEAD arrives June 29.
