We first heard about the monster mash horror film WITCHULA at the beginning of the year, and the project is continuing to make its way toward production, with the US-based producers at MAB Studios having recently closed a co-production deal with the British company Silent Studios Productions. Cameras aren't rolling quite yet, but a poster has been released to give us a teasing glimpse of a very important character in the story – a witch/vampire hybrid.
The upside down cross and pentagram on the poster are symbols often seen in horror movies, but they're joined by a blood dagger, the symbol the filmmakers are using the represent this vampire witch they've created.
WITCHULA has been written by Marcus Bradford and Pat Kusnadi, who will also be directing the film together. The story they'll be telling:
A group of college exchange students travel to a small and remote town situated on an exotic island; only to discover they are being hunted down by a powerful witch-vampire "hybrid" that seeks something in their possession.
Witches, vampires, and werewolves are all said to be joining in on the fun in WITCHULA, with the producers planning to assemble a cast that will be like a horror version of THE EXPENDABLES. So far the cast consists of prolific character actor Bill Oberst Jr., THE EXORCIST's Eileen Dietz, and Marilyn Ghigliotti of CLERKS (pictured above in a MURDER HILL promo).
