I'm not sure about the upcoming supernatural horror film WISH UPON, which is set to be released in theatres on July 14th. On one hand, it looks like it could be fun, and it has a solid cast that includes Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Sydney Park, Shannon Purser, Elisabeth Röhm, and Sherilyn Fenn.
On the other hand, director John R. Leonetti previously brought us MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION and ANNABELLE, so I feel like I should proceed with caution when it comes to watching this one.
Scripted by Barbara Marshall, WISH UPON tells the following story:
Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old CLARE SHANNON is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father JONATHAN and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path.
One week out from the release, we have a clip from WISH UPON that drops Sherilyn Fenn into a situation that's somewhat reminiscent of something that would occur in a FINAL DESTINATION movie. My only issue here is that the clip goes on a little too long and seems to go right through the end of the sequence. There's a fine line between building suspense and just giving away spoilers.
Check out the clip below if you dare, and then decide if you dare to watch the whole film next weekend.
