During the production of BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, it's entirely possible that Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves found themselves tying the knot for real, or at least that's what Ryder believes. Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently to promote the upcoming DESTINATION WEDDING which reunites the pair, and Ryder shared her thoughts on their possible matrimony.
"We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest," Ryder said. "We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married." When Reeves asked, "We said yes?" Ryder responded, "Don't you remember that? it was on Valentine's Day." That was all Reeves needed to hear, as he concluded with "Oh my gosh, we're married."
BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA director Francis Ford Coppola backed up Ryder's assumption while chatting with The Guardian and added a few more details. After finding himself unhappy with the original more stylized version of the wedding scene, Coppola decided that "having the real wedding ceremony as it might be in that religion [Greek Orthodox Christianity] would be beautiful." The ceremony was then re-shot in Los Angeles in a Greek Orthodox Church wih a real priest. "This is pretty authentic and I think very beautiful, because we actually did the ceremony and had the priest do the ceremony," Coppola said. "So in a sense, when we were all done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of this scene and this ceremony." I'm certain that there's already a romantic-comedy out there with this plot already.
Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder will next be seen starring in DESTINATION WEDDING as the socially awkward Frank and Lindsay who meet while on their way to the same destination wedding. The pair soon discover that they have a lot in common: they both hate the bride, the groom, the wedding, themselves, and most especially, each other. "As the weekend's events continually force them together – and their cheerlessness immediately isolates them from the other guests – Frank and Lindsay find that if you verbally spar with someone long enough, anything can happen. When debate gives way to desire, they must decide which is stronger: their hearts or their common sense." DESTINATION WEDDING will be released on August 31st.
