In what has to be the greatest miscasting of all time, newcomer Zachary Gordon has snagged the title role in DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, the adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s best-selling illustrated novels. Don’t be startled if you’ve never heard of Gordon; he’s only appeared in NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS and THE BROTHERS BLOOM but may be poised for a breakout with the lead in this popular children’s series. The books follow smart-aleck middle-school student Greg Heffley during the course of an academic year. Thor Freudenthal is directing, and Chloe Moretz is in negotiations for the female lead. But seriously, if you’re looking for a wimpy kid, why cast an unknown when David Spade was most certainly available? Weird.
